24 Days of Music- Day 4: Keaton Henson

Ok so this is a very new favourite, but bears a mention because it’s so good.

As I was winding down last night, I put on Keaton Henson’s newest album, “Kindly Now”.  I’m not sure what made me think of that album, as I had only given it a cursory listen and then never really went back to it.  This was a mistake on my part, because I absolutely LOVE this album.

The song “Comfortable Love” is really what caught my attention first.  It’s dark and moody, one of the heavier songs on an album that focuses a lot on piano as the lead instrument.  As he is also an artist and a poet, his lyrics convey a sense of emotion that is arresting; I’ll be frank that this isn’t a cheerful album by any means, but one that you’ll commiserate with when things just aren’t going your way.  I’m always a fan of sad songs anyways, but Keaton has such a way of writing, combined with his wavering vocal style, that you get lost in these songs.

Watch the video for “Alright” off of “Kindly Now” below.   You can purchase “Kindly Now” on iTunes, or listen on Spotify.
